Escentric Molecules

Crafted by the fragrance industry's biggest rebel Geza Schoen, Escentric Molecules 01,02 and 03 owe their distinct, addictive scent to an aroma-molecule called Iso E Super, which was formulated in an IFF Laboratory in 1973. Despite Iso E being found in very low concentrations in a wide range of fragrances, the industry had remained ignorant of the power of the molecule for decades, that is until Schoen smelt the molecule in isolation.

Here Geza Schoen recalls that moment: ‘I realised that the common denominator in all the fragrances I liked was that they contained a large dose of it. Iso E Super is highly unusual. You can never get enough of it. One sniff and you want the whole bottle, It’s like a drug’

Schoen then began to experiment, crafting fragrances that contained ISO E Super in incredibly high proportions. Testing the experiment whilst out drinking with friends, as soon as they sat down at a bar, they were approached by a lady who enquired about their fragrance, following some on the spot market research, it soon became clear that the ladies favourite fragrances ALL contained the molecule.

Encouraged by the almost instant positive feedback, Schoen decided to create two fragrances which focused on the mysterious molecule, one fragrance would contain 65% of the molecule, whilst the second would contain 100% molecule Iso E Super. Schoen maintained that the second molecule would attract only the ‘the artists, the freaks, the outsiders’ He was wrong, since it’s launch over a decade ago, it was an instant hit, with fans including Elton John & Madonna. The range has now grown to accommodate molecule 01,02 and 03.
